A New Look on a New Home Too!
Hey guys! I’m back, and with a bang. I hope you notice the new look of this site, but that is not the only thing that you’ll see here. The Lady Programmer is now on self-hosted WordPress!
new look on a new home
A good thing to have this Christmas, and just in time for me to realize that I have just turned to be a one-year old blogger!
I was so so very very happy to be given this push by Jaypee, a interesting Plurker behind the blog JaypeeOnline. He offered me the chance to move from Blogger platform to WordPress. As I prepared my blog weeks before, he had helped me with some things that he already know about setting up a self-hosted WordPress blog.
I did the header and took a fitting theme and made more changes. I have also decided to change my Entrecard widget while I modified the theme extensively. I still have some few loose ends left, but I think this blog is now ready.
I hope you like the new look!

Thanks Margie for getting down to comment here. My guess is that you’re using WordPress.com to host your blog. Di talaga pwede ang JavaScript doon kaya di ka makaput-up ng ads.
The solution to that is to setup your own a self-hosted WordPress blog. Doon ka makakalagay ng ads plus a directory/price comparison site (which comes as a plugin).

Great look for the new site. I guess it’s better to selfhost since you have much more control. I selfhost as well on my blogs. I do like the look. I like that you’ve kept it pretty clean. The colors go well together and it must make you proud to have your own copyright below… There’s one thing though, There are a lot of blogs in blueish colors, there weren’t that many in brown. I mean, you don’t stand out as you did, even though this one is better looking… Hope you had a good Christmas and hope 2009 will be good for you!

Another question. Yung pagpoint ng GoDaddy to your new host, madali lang ba, just a matter of changing the former “ghs.google.com” to your new hosting account? Weeee, I have a few domains na nakapark lang at yung iba nakapoint na sa mga blogs na hosted ng Blogger pero ala pa laman, pwede ko kaya yun ilipat. Wehehehehe, it’s as if may time pa ako for that. Anyway, gusto ko subokan, ganda kasi blog mo ngayon eh, very crisp.

Thanks. Marami rin namang magagandang themes for Blogger. I just Digg-ed one yesterday, maraming free yung listahan na yun.
Pinahiram sa akin ni Jaypee itong host. I mentioned him in the post and he was able to leave the first comment. I also got footer credit pointing to his site too.

True. I did not need to mess up with the Total DNS section. Doon lang sa nameservers. Ang bilis ng palit, took less than an hour bago kumagat itong bagong site home.

If you are not still using your other domains, I suggest you forward these addresses muna sa mga blogs mo. Yung singleparenttalks.com ko, matagal ko nabili yan. It was pointing to the ladyprogrammer.com for a while bago ko nagawan ng separate blog.

I’m setting up a new blog, I have just downloaded WordPress 2.7 and has uploaded it already to my host. Yung MySQL database support sa host in 24 hours pa ma activate kaya wait pa ako a few hours para ma set up ko. Ikaw kasi ang ganda na ng blog mo kaya ayan tuloy naengganyo akong gumawa pa ng isang blog na self-hosted rin he he he gaya-gaya ako sa iyo. Hopefully tomorrow it’ll be up, sana kung di ako papalpak sa steps na gawin ko.

At first glance blogger and wordpress does not really look that different. But if you are interested in SEO techniques and easier ways to customize your blog then self-hosted WordPress is way too better – it simplifies things – not like in Blogger.
Btw, your Today.com blog is powered by wordpress. But its flexibility under the hood is a lot limited, just like blogger’s. Self-hosted wordpress is still the best to go.

Of course mangungulit na naman ako hehehe… Is bravejournal applicable to wordpress too? I bought a new domain from them but unlike blogger they don’t redirect your old url to the new one so I am thinking if I could transfer it to other host?

Thanks! Ngayon ko lang napansin may sariling domain na pala ang bravejournal mo, lagi ko lang nababasa ang blog mo through my feed reader, kaya di ko napansin.
Most WordPress blogs, by default, don’t have this threaded comments feature enabled, so parang sa blogger ang dating. I had to install a plugin to make the threaded comments work.
I can’t help much on bravejournal to wordpress move. Try mo ang forums nila. I’m sure di lang ikaw ang may problem diyan.

Actually, threaded comments is one of the features added to WP 2.7. Although the theme has to support threaded comments and you’ll have to activate it via the WP Dashboard.

True! Kaka-adik nga. Makes my life pagdating sa optimizations at yung mga gusto kong mangyari sa blog. I keep on modifying the code kasi doon sa dati kong blogspot template and I don’t get to do it offline – not like this WordPress na pwede i-update sa FTP from localhost.

The old blog is still in blogspot and I will never delete it. I need those old blog links (ending in .html) because some blogs and web sites are linked to it. Most importantly, the images of my old posts are also hosted in blogger.

just a tip… don’t export your posts from blogger to wordpress Google may ban you for doing that. Yung friend ko deleted pati email address kasama lahat ng mga blog niya sa blogspot pagkatapos niyang mg-export ng mga posts.
galing mo din almost 4 months pa lang theladyprogrammer pero dami mo na readers at pr3 na.

Hi! It is hosted in 1and1 (as provided to me by my friend Jaypee) but the domain is with GoDaddy.
I just exported my posts from Blogger so that I could have a backup on my hard drive. But I had to import those blog posts from Blogger to WordPress. I think hindi na-map ng friend mo ang mga old Blogger post links to the new one. I’ve noticed na magkaiba ang permalinks ng blogger (ends in HTML) to that of WordPress.
Check out this old link: http://www.theladyprogrammer.com/2008/12/theres-no-change-is-there.html … makikita mo iba ang permalink nito ngayon.
Maraming bloggers na ang nagsulat about how to make the move – in different versions (i-Google mo), so I believe yung case ng friend mo is an isolated one.

I just realized na yung theme na ito, di pa supported ang default threaded comments. Kaya pala kinailangan ko pa ng separate plugin. Most likely sa width ng CSS styles i-a-adjust ito, at medyo tinatamad pa ako mag-trace hehehe.
Malamang magkaiba rin tayo ng CSS style na gagalawin.

True. I’m beginning to like WordPress and it is easier for me to learn how to tinker templates than that of blogger – I can just install one right in my own local PC.
I’ve always edited my templates directly on the Blogger’s (blogspot) server and this really eats up much of my time. I never figured out how to setup a template right on my own PC.
Yes, that a cool link that you have – that’s from Commentluv – and I like that to promote my own posts. I think Commentluv is also working out this one for Blogger blogs.
