UPDATE: It seems to me that there are a lot of tech bloggers who are posting out humor posts today. I’m beginning to think that there’s a humor virus in the wild!

I think this is why there will be some people who remain to be skeptical about the possibility of making money online. People with simply an email to communicate with other people often receive “make money messages” in their Inbox email. Surprisingly, no matter how fishy it sounds some people fall for it, while others shrug it off because it is simply too good to be true.

There are some really “creative” people who can come up with new systems to convince people to give out money. People often receive emails that sounded like this:

An inbox message in my Entrecard

The message is too long so I’ve decided taken out some important snippets from that message and put some comments along.

Slapped by PayPerPost

6 September 2008

Would you believe me that this blog had fallen from PR3 to PR0?

At least this is what is going on over at PayPerPost. A few bloggers had noticed this particular problem that had been going on for a few days.

If you had been wondering why there are less opportunities at PPP, then perhaps your blog is listed as having Google PR0, which has an impact on taking available opportunities. However, the IZEA and Alexa ranks remain unchanged.

If you notice a drop in qualified opportunities when you have a good PR4 blog then you may be suffering from this bug. The problem seemed not to be confined on a few members.

UPDATE: As of this time this blog is now back at PR3 level. Now I’m ready to take opportunities available at that level.

Kick-Ass Weekend Love

30 August 2008

Who doesn’t love awards?

I guess this is what I get for some effort in making new friends to a number of bloggers in Entrecard. One of my frequent visitors, Pastilan, a free man From The Jack of All Trades, gave me this Kick Ass Blogger Award yesterday because he finds this blog informative. He likes my posts on freelancing and blogging, and he admires my currently-chosen chocolate-flavored blog layout.

Now I feel so happy. Thank you so much Pastilan for pointing out that I really kicked some ass (and I hope yours doesn’t hurt).

Now I’ve carefully chosen my bloggers to give this kick-ass treat:

  • Rosemarie of My Journey: I never thought I’ll be striking a virtual friendship with this pretty single mom. Single moms seemed a rare find in the blogosphere.
  • Betchai of San Diego Backroads: I’m a big fan of her travel adventures in San Diego. She takes amazing snapshots of this place. One look at her site and I feel so relaxed. I’m glad she’s another frequent visitor of this blog.
  • PinoyCopyWriter: He is the mysterious author behind this blog. His recent post on Michael Phelps Way to Become a Good Copywriter is my personal favorite. If you happen to be a freelancer then that post is a good one to inspire not only freelance copywriters but other freelancers as well.
  • MJ of Sagada Philippines: I was wrong to think that this blogger was from Sagada and writes about his hometown, but he turned out to a big fan and frequent visitor of this wonderful place in the highlands. It is quite a shame that I’ve never been to Sagada yet: even if it looks like this place is near my current location, one has to take the longer route to see the magnificent sights.

I’m supposed to give one more award, but just like Pastilan my world is small… yet.

Pastilan’s From the Jack of All Trades blog led me to discover his newest blog, Violet Moon. It looks like I’m going to see some graphic art creations unfold. I hope to see more posts – he is really talented.

By the way this kick-ass blogger award was brought to you by Mammadawg.

To my chosen ones who received this award, you may pass this kick-ass award to other bloggers with these rules in mind:

  • Choose 5 bloggers that you feel are “Kick Ass Bloggers”
  • Let ‘em know via email, twitter or blog comments that they’ve received an award
  • Share the love and link back to both the person who awarded you and back to MammaDawg to get the code for the kick ass image.

Can You Drop Entrecards in 15 minutes?

No I could not. I hope I do. But It always took me about 30 minutes to an hour to do the maximum drops Entrecard can allow to a single blog. I can just tell my way of dropping the maximum 300 limit Entrecards at a faster rate.

I have been doing the drops for more than a month. I am not able to drop every day, but I get to manage dropping 300 cards (per blog) in one sitting.

That’s one of my Entrecard statistics. It shows on the number of Entrecards drops that I am able to do each day. Whenever I do my Entrecard chores I always manage to make it to the maximum 300 drops (I only have single blog – this one – registered at Entrecard).

Interested? Here’s how I do the (almost) daily Entrecard drops:

Install and Configure ImgLikeOpera

I had to install ImgLikeOpera or ImgLikeOpera Reloaded add-on which can be downloaded from Mozilla add-ons site.

I have to set the options or settings of this add-on. Under “Cache, misc” select “Don’t load images” for the “default policy for new window/tab”.

Go to “Filters”, add the following to the filter list by filling out the “filter” and choosing the corresponding “filter policy”:

  • http://entrecard.com, policy 1
  • http://entrecard.s3.amazonaws.com, policy 1

Once that ImgLikeOpera is enabled and set to “don’t load images”, I am ready to drop while it’s hot!

Dropping Using the Inbox Drops

The fastest way to open browser windows is to hold down the CTRL key then left-click each Entrecard in my Inbox list. I usually open two rows of Entrecards and wait for the sites to load. Since ImgLikeOpera prevents loading up of images, each sites loads up fast. Sites look uninteresting, but at least each site’s Entrecard is now easier to find. UPDATE: I give utmost priority to the 50 top droppers of the list, then followed by those who drop in the yesterday’s Inbox. The remaining ECs goes to SOME favorite blogs and to new blog sites.

Then I get to drop all the cards until I’m finished. I bookmark sites where I’d plan to advertise, visit and comment along the way. After I’m done with the drops, I revisit these bookmarked sites. But this time, I disable the ImgLikeOpera add-on so that I can see the beauty of each site.

Oh! Before you go be sure to turn off ImgLikeOpera add-on after making the EC drops. In my end my Firefox does not work well with the add-on enabled.

What’s your way of making Entrecard drops?

 | Posted by | Categories: Blogging | Tagged: Entrecard |

I’ve been exploring ways on how to improve my Alexa rank on my blogs. For one, I followed the popular advice to install the Alexa widget and the Alexa toolbar. The ranking improved, from a 2 million to 1.5 million in less than a week. I could not really say whether it was from the installation of the Alexa widget and toolbar, because I installed Entrecard code at the same time.

What is Entrecard?

Entrecard provides an innovative solution in getting traffic to one site. It prompts other bloggers to visit one’s blog and drop his or her personal Entrecard. The Entrecard is basically a 125 x 125 pixel graphic that acts like a personal business card. It is like an invitation to visit one’s site. But it is easy to abuse the system – I had to admit, I tried dropping up to the limit of Entrecards of up to 300 per day – and I find it difficult to read (and even leave a comment) on all of the 300 sites that I’ve visited. For many Entrecard is simply used to put in more traffic in the hopes of getting noticed. Since everyone in the Entrecard community speaks and promotes his or her blog, it can be quite difficult to gain a loyal follower of readers.

Entrecard credits is gained mostly through dropping and receiving Entrecards. When enough credits are accumulated, it can be used to buy an advertisement on another site – which means one’s Entrecard graphic is prominently displayed to entice another site’s visitors to visit the blog. Some sites are cheap, and others are expensive.

Get More Quality Comments and Build Loyal Readers

Entrecard has recently launched a partnership with SezWho just last week. I registered with this new service and installed the required JavaScript code and I was on the go! Although I still needed to work out the code (it overlaps some of the text here), I had to arrange the location of the SezWho rating after the post for another time because I do not have a fast connection to easily revise this site. Nevertheless SezWho provides the facility for any reader to rate my posts as well as provide ratings for each individual comment.

It looks like Entrecard had successfully motivated their Entrecard members to earn more Entrecard credits by leaving thoughtful comments on the sites that they visit. Two of my recent posts suddenly gained more comments after the installation of SezWho. To discourage the members from leaving two or three worded comments like “great post”, comments that are written by the members are left to the community to rate. Poorly rated comments and comments that seem to look like spam do not get any credit at all. To be fair, after the community gets to have their share of rating comments, Entrecard has devised their secret way to provide the proper credit for comment points!

Responsible Blogging

Entrecard is strongly promoting their vision to see their Entrecard members as the best commentators in the blogosphere. This would truly change the notion that Entrecard is a mere kickoff to oodles of traffic that will simply improve off one’s Alexa ranking and other indicators. I hope Entrecard finally succeeds in making more bloggers do their duty not only by writing posts but also by visiting others. Better traffic and loyal readership is gained by leaving well-thought out comments on other blogs – and not by simply dropping a card out.
