Kyle asked me over email just the other day:
I am a web and graphic developer who works in Makati. My salary is not sufficient so I’m trying to look for ways to augment my income. I had created an account in oDesk but I am confused. Please help me.
The original wordings of these sentences are in Taglish (mixed Tagalog and English), but I had translated Kyle’s question for the benefit of the majority of the readers.
I usually get these kinds of emails but I had already grown tired of the typical responses I give. Usually I’d say they should visit this post about how oDesk works to get an overview of the entire system. Then I would give them this post on additional tips on how to land on that oDesk assignment. I would also mention the useful tips on how to collect their payment from the internet.

I was too busy yesterday working on modifying somebody’s WordPress blog. I was actually paid to do the task – the requirements are to fix the blog’s wp-forum that was not working and make it consistent with the look of the main site. Those were the design considerations I had to work on.
I did all the CSS modifications task alone, but I did not work alone in that entire job assignment. Cesar replaced the wp-forum plugin that was not working and used SimplePress forum plugin instead. He still did a couple of fixes but since he is busy with his day job, I went on to continue the job: I designed a very simple header (the job task is estimated to be completed for a few hours) and choose a template and modified it to make its look consistent with the main site.
Here’s the main site where I copied the design from: Christian Book Bibles
Here’s how its blog looks like with the SimplePress forum plugin working well: CBB’s Christian Community

I have already rewritten one of the pages of this blog: I’ve renamed it to Current Earners. Those are the ones that are brings me money each month, aside from participating in surf and click programs of course.
The page is now quite descriptive – you can actually see an overview of what the program actually is. I’ve also included links to the past reviews that I had already written on this blog!
Oh, and do me a favor by signing up!

Not many people who decide to start out a freelance career see a freelancing program as a business. Personally, I am one of those people who thinks negatively of freelance: that it is not a good career option because it does not give stable returns. After two sweaty job interviews from two big companies in my place, I soon learned that freelance is not what I thought of before – it can be a good career!

Another frequent question I get from some new oDesk freelancers is that they are not able to link their Paypal accounts to their oDesk email. I’ve decided to write a tutorial guide complete with screenshots that will help users with this problem. If successful, funds should successfully be withdrawn out using Paypal method in oDesk.
If you are curious as to what oDesk is, please read this previous post: Get Paid by the Hour in oDesk.
You need:
- oDesk email (to determine oDesk email, hover over Profile and Settings at the top right part of the page, then click User Info and note down your oDesk email).
- personal email listed with oDesk (this is also listed below your oDesk email in your User Info)
- Paypal account (you need an account with Paypal, sign up for a FREE Paypal account now)
