Since I got the first job in oDesk, I had the opportunity to work with various job assignments. I was one of those who are complaining how difficult it is to land on a freelance job. I also have the skills to do a job, but it seemed to me that the jobs that are posted on oDesk look quite complicated. Besides, I had a full time day job which always required me to work overtime. I applied to some jobs then I got one rejection after another. I got my Payoneer card but no one was interesting in hiring me for a job.

Until I left my full time job and decided to find greener pastures. I went on to apply to companies near my place. One company offered me a good package because they wanted to hire me but I declined the job. During that time my adventures in freelancing had started to pay off.

Even though my recent posts on this blog are less on freelance and more on technology, blogging and social networks in general, I keep on getting emails asking me inside freelancer tips on how to get their first oDesk work assignment. For a while, I had been active in oDesk’s forum discussions, helping fellow Filipino freelancers land their own jobs. But ever since I’ve discovered blogging, I had already abandoned the forums in favor of learning new ways of making money online.

If you do not have an idea on how oDesk works, you can read an overview of this freelance site through this previous post, Get Paid by the Hour in oDesk, or see this video:

Speechless!

25 March 2009

I have not been posting lately on all my blogs because I got too occupied in my freelance work. This latest modification that I had done on this blog had really paid off. I suddenly had this invitation left and right that are related to what I had done, both online and offline. I would probably have some work spilled over to some guys who wanted to earn more from their freelance ventures. I had already started delegating some of the blogging tasks to a friend. Thus, instead of leaving the whole wide blogosphere behind, I decided to move on to full time backend blogging gigs.

One of my long overdue plans is now something that I was able to do these past few days: if you are a regular visitor of this blog, you may have noticed that I had added more advertisements and added a featured header on this blog. The featured header is not a WordPress plugin but it a built-in feature of this Flexibility theme v2.0 template which can be turned on and off. I decided to turn on that feature and add more useful content to it through widgets.

Now I’ve decided to work out monetize this technology and freelance blog effectively through several sources not only through actively writing paid reviews. The changes I had made are not really major: I could say these subtle but dramatic. I wanted to have more advertisements posted on the blog by posting at every possible place but I had to choose make my choices so that these would not overpower the blog’s overall appearance and content.

Again, my knowledge in CSS, HTML and programming helped me do those little adjustments. I am not yet finished with this task, but I am very pleased with the initial changes.

I will be working out an “advertise here” page anytime today, so that I can start accepting direct advertisers.

Finally, I’ve just finished adding not so obvious changes on my personal blog. As some of you may have noticed, I own another personal blog related to my single parenting experience. I was working on that blog layout for two days. That’s a long time to do such modifications on a template, but I was working on the blogger server all time.
