Dear Adobe: Please Read This Website

Aug 31, 2008

It turns out that not only Microsoft is having loads of rants about their operating system. But at least they are now on their way to Windows 7 after they had learned their lessons in launching their Windows Vista.

The same is true with Adobe. Adobe users had even launched their own gripe system. Web designer Erik Frick put up this simple Dear Adobe site for Adobe software users to list down their gripes on the software. The gripe system is not simply a list of complaints – other Adobe users can come to vote for or against the gripe that another person had listed.

Screaming by ralaenin (SXC)

What’s good about this gripe is that Adobe learned about this whole affair and listened. Photoshop Principal Product Manager John Nack participated in these gripes by responding to these.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? I have the same set of gripes with its users; here’s some that I like, most of these gripes came from the top 50 list:

  • (Number 1) “Why does the Acrobat Reader take two minutes to launch, and require updates twice a month, just to display PDF pages?” # 289
  • (Number 4) “Please create an installer that puts your software on my computer in less time than it takes to install an operating system.” # 403
  • (Number 19) “Why does Photoshop cost as much as a pre-owned small car? Drop the price please!!” # 215
  • (Number 33) “Please don’t copy Microsoft’s naming and bundling conventions. I want CS3 not CS3 pro, CS3 pro advantage, CS3 pro plus, CS3 no frills, CS3 pro max, CS3 pro extra pro max…” # 366
  • (New) NO NEW FEATURES. That’s the last thing your bloated, convoluted, poorly-defined, and crash-prone products need. This is the design industry. Refine and simplify. # 644

Now this is the perfect opportunity to launch a gripe against Adobe, isn’t it?

ahhhh does that site is kind of a “i hate adobe” kind of site?

I love Adobe Flex. I’m an Adobe user. Maybe I am encountering some bugs on Flex but I still love Adobe. Muah muah Adobe.

No, not really. They’re Adobe users like you. They still love the software but want to see improvements.

I only use Adobe Creative Suite 3 Master Collection, with it I can do everything I want to do in the field of graphics.

Yes, i’ve noticed some crashes lately in Adobe Acrobat probably because I have upgraded Adobe Reader to version 9 while my Adobe Acrobat which is part of Creative Suite 3 is still version 8.

Al in all I am still satisfied with Adobe (I don’t even waste my time looking at Corel)

I saw that crash too. In the end I decided to remove Acrobat 8 Pro. I’m was not using it anyway.

I also agree Adobe’s Suite is one of the best software available around. It has unseated Corel over the years (which was a hot software more than 5 years ago. I just do not like that it has become a bloatware.

Yes, it has bloated into a space station when all we need is just a sleek spaceship. I do not use Adobe Bridge, I am used to just going to the “File” in the menu bar when using Photoshop and Indesign. And I do not use Fireworks too because Photoshop could do more than what it could do. Fireworks is a redundancy of Photoshop in Master Collection, the collection could do without it.

Yeah, back when I was a graphic artist for this old company I had the exact same gripes about Adobe software. I wish this site existed 3 years ago.

i don’t know a thing about the technical side of computers and programs, I only know how to surf the net. But Windows Vista sucks. Had a bad experience with it but I’m not really sure if it was really Vista that caused it.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Btw, I miss Baguio.

    Hi BioTecK!
I really hope that after Adobe would really make a stable software. If some other company produces better graphics software then Adobe would soon find themselves out of business.

Adobe products’ prices are simply too steep. It’s like they are feeding. the black market (torrents, pirates, etc.) but then you get what you pay for, right? Expensive price tags mean more features and even easier to use.

On the other hand, why buy Adobe products when there are hundreds of open-source alternatives available for free – legally free? :D
