Diamonds from the Dead

Sep 12, 2008

“All that live must die, passing through nature to eternity.” – William Shakespeare

Diamonds are often perceived as a symbol of eternity. People often say these gems are forever. This is now literally possible.

A small company in Switzerland had been creating diamonds from the ashed remains of dead loved ones. Most of its customers are Christians.

six stages of creating diamond from a dead person’s ashes

General Electric first explored this technique in the 1950s where carbon is subjected to heat and pressure extremes to mimic nature’s way of producing diamonds. The technique has improved over the years, including creating diamonds from hair, buried persons and dead pets.

These “remembrance” diamonds takes between three weeks to three months before the customer gets to wear these.

    Wow, this company’s idea is very good. I know about the technology of making artificial diamonds but this is the first time for me to have seen something like this. It’s somewhat weird but it is nice. I hope it’s not very expensive.

    The synthetic diamonds are less expensive than the real ones.

    i’d consider doing this, but probably not to be worn. :O maybe as some form of trinket perhaps. but it’d seem creepy to wear, i think. would rather just have my remains be somewhere in the living room maybe. :)

    @iceah and @kouji
    If that would be someone dear to me, I think I’d wear it. But this is really creepy.
