Are Homebased Online Jobs Right for Me?
Can we ever blame people who do NOT like to venture into online freelance opportunities?
I’ve been taking out some payments out from online payment sites to my local Philippine bank account a number of times. I never had problems using oDesk debit Mastercard or Paypal. I can just tell that my earnings match the monthly paycheck that I get when I was still employed.
Just like other bloggers, holding the cold cash out from a local ATM is enough for me to jump for joy and tell everyone about my find.
Then, people ask me how I do it.
As a freelancer I get most of my earnings from various sources. I’ve worked on some projects and earn well from blogging too. Sometimes I’d get surprised that I’ve earned something from passive sources too.
I could comfortably say I’m doing a variety of freelance jobs. At least I’m not in the group of the unemployed.
Some people even seem to get genuinely interested in freelance jobs. I’ve noticed that those who really persevere to find ways to learn the hard ropes of freelancing, but majority of those that I’ve convinced did not really made it and moved on.
My Convincing Prowess
I’ve convinced a close friend to earn residual from blogging. But he eventually realized that he is more of a better speaker than a writer.
I’ve tried to convince my best friend to earn from blogging. She is actually aware that the internet is a gold mine, but she is prefers to exert efforts in making herself a better full-time guidance counselor. She is skilled at writing than I am.
I’ve invited two former office mates to sign up under my account and take up freelance jobs as I did. Unfortunately, their skills are not a match to the online opportunities around, so they did not make it.
Finally, I was not able to convince my father to join with me in blogging about his life experience, or his interest in making water-powered car technology, or even about his engineering job. He is a better writer than I am, and he IS computer-literate. He can surf the web to find information and write documents in MS Word despite his age. He knows that paid blogging is a good way to earn income, but still he tells me that he is not interested.
A Lesson Learned
I’ve finally realized that online jobs are not really for everyone. Everyone has his reason for doing so. Eventually everybody finds the one opportunity that they like doing for the most of their working lives.
But this WILL NOT STOP ME from finding people who are truly interested in the internet gold mine. After all, I’ve discovered freelance opportunities online through a friend. If not for him then I’ve never known that earning online existed.
And even blogging.
Have you ever tried convincing someone to money-making opportunities from the internet?

Yes it is difficult to convince people about trying their hands at earning online.
Anyway, while typing my comment for this post minutes ago, I forgot that what I was typing was a comment and not an article or a blog post. So I decided to post it instaed in my blog and I of course linked it back here
Here’s the article I have written : On Online Freelance Opportunities
I read about a Filipino engineer who was successful in making a car with an engine that uses water as fuel. I forgot the name of that engineer because I read about him many years ago.
Your father is interested in water-powered vehicles? He is doing research about it or is he actually trying to build it? This could make some countries poor (those who depend on the oil industry) and they would go back to just tending their camels.
Yes, there is that guy who got that water-powered technology years ago. I believe it is a pure water-powered one.
Right now, there are a lot of resources online that uses this water-powered technology. My dad is trying to build one. It cannot run on pure water power: what it does is to add more energy to the existing gasoline-powered machine.
Hai there Miss IT. haha. I just spotted your blog from Pastilan’s page. It was hoo. wow. I read this post and it did some relations with my abilities. I am a beginner writer but I am always hardworking on things I like. I fortunately my teacher influence to join this world and It strike my very interest. Now I’m currently looking for ways to earn a revenue. I guess ypu can help me. I’m hoping for your positive response. PS. Ate if you have time come visit mmy blog also. bjunabia.blogspot.com TY
Thanks bientot! I’ve seen your profile. It is nice that you’re doing this at a young age.
I guess you have a lot to thank to your teacher.
Yahoo… that’s very kind of you to entertain a beginner like me. Ate I’m having problem in operating my ads in my page. Can you help me with this? Anticipating again your kindest response. Thank you
That is nice of you to tell and try to convince people that they can earn from blogging. My wife had just met her friend yesterday. And she is convincing her friend to try.
As of now, her friend is married. They still don’t have a child, but they can’t save some money. Her friend does not need to pay for house rent because they are living in a floor unit of his parents-in-law’s place. My wife said she just can’t imagine her friend when she would get pregnant stops working. How can they buy the things their child would need.
Hello chocobread!
Some people have to pave the ways for other people to see opportunities.
I’m glad your wife is very helpful about her friend.
But she has to have at least an interest in writing about things, or she’ll have to find another way to sustain her growing family.
i was here through Pastilan’s page too!
And I was glad I read this post…
I have worked as an online tutor and it’s giving me bigger amount of money than my friends who work in call centers (it’s very convenient too ’cause I work at home and have flex time)
I have convinced many of my friends in this job and we’re happy
but since I have a lot of free time, I also joined as a writer in an American company outsourced in the Philippines, but I quit because the pay was so low but the job was demanding
now, I’d like to have more freelance jobs… well, aside from blogging, do you know any other way we could earn from the Internet…
well, I’m happy even I’m not earning yet…
Hello Pchi! Glad to see you drop by.
I’m interested to know how you do the online tutor thing. I know people at call centers earn more money than those who work at daytime.
I’ve left a message in your cbox, I hope that post will enlighten you.
Ako rin interested sa online tutor thing na yan he he he mukhang maganda yan ah
ahehe… nahiya na man ako
well, comparatively, I earn more ’cause I don’t have to spend for transportation, coffee or snacks in between…
and I meant basic call center pay lang ha? hehe. defensive….
my company is rarejob… http://rarejob.com/professional
but I’ve heard from my mother’s friend, she’s a retired college prof and now works as a tutor online (halo-halo na nationality). She receives double or more my salary per hour ’cause she has MA or PHD in teaching English…
I have yet to ask anong company o site yun…
Yung company kasi namin UP students at alumni lang ang tinatanggap… but I hope they scrap that requirement out…
madami naman kasing hindi taga UP na magaling ma-English at marunong magturo…
I’ll update you both when I’ve asked na my mother’s friend
UP had made a name about their academic standards, kaya favorite yan ng companies.
It looks like you’re using Skype para dito sa online job. I’m wondering if using a webcam is necessary. Are you being paid by the hour?
Gem,
You make an excellent point.
Online work isn’t for everyone, though we do see that a growing number of people is realizing that it’s really no different than offline work.
It was only 15 years ago that people using email were considered nuts or geeks (and today there is almost no one who doesn’t use it), and I strongly believe that online work (or online freelancing) is already experiencing the same change. You, I and our fellow buyers and providers are just the early adopters in this market.
Orie from oDesk
Thanks Orie for sharing my views! Time had changed the way people view the internet.
gem,
this is interesting topic, well i’m lucky to convince three people to try their luck in bloging first my close friend in office Geng, the other one is my sister Redge and her high school friend Cathy. They have one thing in common, they love to read and write so persuasion is not that hard. Right now Geng has even higher PR than me and I’m so happy for her. We’re all part-time bloggers though! I’ve resigned from my job few months back but my boss requested me to stay a little bit longer but in time i know he’ll accept. I’m very interested in online freelance job from odesk but will take it seriously when i’m finally at home working. Hope you could give me some tips by then!
@race
Blogging is passion. There are a lot of things associated with it. Just now, I’m beginning to think why we have a mom blogging category is saturated – full time moms need to socialize – at least though the internet.
You got to try your luck. I did. I’m not ashamed I’m up a few steps.
Online freelancing is a good thing. In oDesk you will find lots of Pinoys. Good luck!
