HP Recalls 70,000 Notebook Batteries Due to Fire Hazard
If you happen to own a HP Pavilion or Compaq Presario laptop that you’ve bought between August 2007 to March 2008, then your machine’s notebook battery might be one of those that results to fire hazard. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, together with HP, has just released this HP battery recall announcement over the web. Using these batteries can result to fire hazard, as there were already two reported incidents where the cause of the fire damage was nailed down on the overheating of these laptop batteries.
HP estimated that there are 70,000 batteries that are affected by the recall. HP is willing to replace those recalled batteries for FREE.

Hello Gem, how are you doing girl? ^_^
Is your HP battery among the defectives? One of the links of that post will let you check online whether your battery is included among those defective ones.
Still here, and fine, and busy working at home.
wossh…this is serious. how can such a big company let all these defective stuffs pass they way unnoticed? reminds of my my nokia mobile battery

Indeed! But defectives in design do really make it out from the factory, even with a very good team of quality assurance personnel. I’ve worked in a factory myself – a big international one – and problems like these do exist!
It’s a good thing, that the quality is still monitored even as the product goes out from the factory, so this kind of “mass” recall happens. To consumers, this is quite hard to understand – because they expect that the product that they should have should be 100% free from any life-threatening defects.

I had HP Pavilion dv6000 before and my original battery died after 6 month and my laptop was always overheated also. I even contacted customer support but they just said me Sorry.
Now I change my HP to Lenovo and I glad I did that, because My Old HP just turn off sudenly because of overheating.
I gave my old HP to my wife and she bought a new battery from 3rd parties for HPs and she does not have any problems. She bought that battery at NewPCBattery.com. A lot of companies like this have full waranties anyway instead of the limited ones that come with the stock batteries when you buy the laptop. And you are saving almost half of what you pay HP-Compaq for it.
