I had HP Pavilion dv6000 before and my original battery died after 6 month and my laptop was always overheated also. I even contacted customer support but they just said me Sorry.
Now I change my HP to Lenovo and I glad I did that, because My Old HP just turn off sudenly because of overheating.
I gave my old HP to my wife and she bought a new battery from 3rd parties for HPs and she does not have any problems. She bought that battery at NewPCBattery.com. A lot of companies like this have full waranties anyway instead of the limited ones that come with the stock batteries when you buy the laptop. And you are saving almost half of what you pay HP-Compaq for it.

Is your HP battery among the defectives? One of the links of that post will let you check online whether your battery is included among those defective ones.

Still here, and fine, and busy working at home. :-)

Indeed! But defectives in design do really make it out from the factory, even with a very good team of quality assurance personnel. I've worked in a factory myself - a big international one - and problems like these do exist!

It's a good thing, that the quality is still monitored even as the product goes out from the factory, so this kind of "mass" recall happens. To consumers, this is quite hard to understand - because they expect that the product that they should have should be 100% free from any life-threatening defects.

Very valuable information, this. I only have my trusty and vintage desktop so no worries for me. But there maybe a lot of our friends and online buddies who do. So I tweeted about this. ",)
