Ways to Make Money Online
All about oDesk, Payoneer, Paypal, SmartMoney, Unionbank EON

Computer programming had been my personal interest since high school. However, I took up Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering during college instead of computer courses because I preferred having an “Engr.” appended to before my name. I was able to do that – after graduation I passed the board exams without any problems.
After graduation I decided to shift back to Information Technology because I was, after all, what I like doing. My first two employed jobs had been into IT jobs that covered teaching IT courses, programming, systems analysis, web design and internet server configuration. However, my last employed job had been into maintenance engineering which is something related to the engineering course I took up during college.
Although I learned and appreciated my last job, my interest is still on programming. I didn’t expect that my next career would be related to IT freelance jobs. My previous plan (if I did have any) was to work out a fulfilling business. Eventually
I realized that freelancing is a business in itself.
I started offering my services in oDesk as a .NET programmer. I realized that PHP programming skills are one of the most sought-after skills in many freelance sites, so I decided to gradually shift my knowledge from .NET to PHP. There are various areas in PHP programming too, but I decided to concentrate on WordPress blogs.
I understand the blog name “The Lady Programmer” gets some people confused – as it assumes that I am well-versed in many languages. I used to have that knowledge in several languages but in freelance I find more success in building a solid experience on a single skill, that is, in PHP and WordPress for as long as there is a market demand for it.
I’m always a student of life – I never stop at learning new things.
My online portfolio is still a work in progress because my work history is chronicled in oDesk and I still have to find time to update it. However, please contact me if you are interested in my services.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog.

Kind for you to drop by. =) I miss using that title appended to my name. I realized that when I got to semicon industries, I don’t get to use that title anyway.
I’m trying to learn SEO too. My blog on PTC is already optimized for search engines – done some on-page optimization already. This main blog is not yet optimized, because I’m still busy with my other blogs. =)
Nice blog.. Your tips are helpful! I’m trying to find ways to make money out of it while keeping a regular job.
Hi Gem!

As of now!!! i work as an internal auditor….. wahhhhhhhhh ang lay0oooooo ng accounting at saka programming!!!! but I’ve like to learn that…..
you will seeing me here more often gem…is it just ok?
Hi Gem – this is a great website. I am trying to investigate freelance programming. I have a degree in information systems but absolutely no work experience in computers. I am not interested in working for a company. I don’t know where to start tho! I am trying to learn visual basic and java at the moment… We touched on these in the course and so I am trying to brush up. However, I have gone onto many sites with projects posted and it disheartens me when I read them because I realise how little I know and I say to myself I’ll never be able to do any of those! I don’t know where to look for easy ones to start me off. I keep reading about all these difficult business projects… Is there a place with nice easy ones for beginners that would help me get experience? Is odesk the place to look?
Also Gem, what is the link to the article you wrote on the oblog for newbies?
Thanks Gem
Hi Gem,
Stumbled on your site from Wardell’s blog, another developer I’ve sucessfully managed to network with and gain experience from.
I’m following the CIW certified developement route myself and am just keen to network with other developers and generally, learn as much as I can.
I’ll keep checking back regularly. Great site and blog

I was searching on how transfer my Odesk funds to Paypal and your blog came up. Thanks for the info.
Hi nice site! i sent you an email, hope to see your feedback! good to know you’re a filipino.
I was looking for answers and ways on how to link a credit card and a Paypal Account when your website suddenly appears on google.. I already sent you an email and i hope to read your response as soon as possible.. nice website name.. i usually get my arms “raised” whenever i saw/hear a woman pursuing jobs in engineering.. nice web-designs.. good combination of colors.. reliable sources.. catchy topics.. hope to see you soon..
Thank you. I really was into a lot of freelance jobs these past few weeks, and I got lots of emails asking about things related to Paypal.
hi lady programmer… do you know any site that teaches the basics of web designing and programming.. i want to engage in freelance web designing.. please send me sites where i can learn those things.. thanks in advance ladyprogrammer..
from which university did you graduate? how can you call yourself an ECE by profession if you’re into IT?
I’m licensed ECE (or Electronics Engineer, as PRC had already changed their rules).
i think you’re using terms incorrectly. you’re not not an engineer by profession.
this is really a nice blog site. Thanks for all the useful infos.
hi napadaan lang dito… its nice to have fellow blogger from Baguio City…. Sana we have some kind of association of Bloggers here.
There isn’t? I’m also having a hard time finding probloggers in Baguio, but I’ve already found a handful who are into blogging but are not earning from these.
Being a freelancer looks like a very tough job to me. But you seem to be a very good blogger and a web designer. Just browsed the odesk.com and there are many candidate freelancers competing for a single job. How did you do it? I’m amazed.
Thanks. Maybe being an early player in odesk helped me get the edge? Or maybe it was luck? Or even my talents and work experience? Or a combination of things. But just remember you won’t be able to get that freelance job if you hadn’t tried, or just quit. Good luck!
Its good to see the pinoys and pinays are becoming integrated to online world and I am one of them although I’m not a good blogger I’m just doing things I know that can contribute to popularity of blogging… To all new and old bloggers may the power of WordPress guide you
