LASIK Technology Goes 3D

Jul 10, 2008

LASIK is not a new technology to many people. I did not understand much about this technology except that it is used to treat some eye condition. I got opportunity to look for some information, and I realized that much LASIK information is written all over the web. There are even some LASIK sites that blatantly advertise their services and highlight the strengths of this procedure. I really find it wonderful that this option is becoming popular treatment: the success rate of this procedure is a high 95.4% taken from the scientific data discussed in a recent FDA meeting.

LASIK is a simplified term for laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. It is technically a type of refractive surgery procedure that involves operating the cornea. The result of the operation is usually painless, and clear vision is achieved in as early as the next day.As fast as this becomes a new treatment option, not all are qualified for this procedure. Dr. Kerry Solomon, a world famous ophthalmologist and refractive eye surgeon at Storm Eye Institute, even mentioned that 20 to 25% of the candidates for this procedure are ineligible – not all corneas are suited for this option and people with unrealistic expectations with this treatment are not definitely qualified. He even explains further that the modern LASIK surgery combines 3D mapping and customized treatment which is approved by the US military and NASA. This treatment is much too different to its beginnings several decades ago.

Kung may LASIK na sa Pinas at meron ako extra money to spare for it cguro mag think twice muna ako kasi parang nakakatakot. Kahit alam ko na safe di maalis sa isip ang apprhension, at saka baka masakit or what, yung mga ganung bagay he he he

Lasik technology has definitely progressed from what it was at the beginning. Surgeons can achieve much better results wit hthe new 3d-mapping technology.
