@Rom
I definitely agree with that. I applied to some writing jobs on some freelance site and one of the jobs required doing some series of tasks (recording voice and writing an article) before they get you hired. They often disappear and do not hire anyone.

@Bobby
I still think not all occupations are cut out for taking online jobs. Would we like to hire a cook to make us our breakfast online?

I find a lot of resources that are easily accessible online. I believe that the problem lies on the varying views of these resources. One person may state this fact, while another may claim an opposing fact. Now this gets others confused.

@Phil Benwell
Elance is a larger place with plenty of opportunities but it requires one to spend to apply to more jobs. oDesk is a smaller freelance site, but easier to use. Good luck!

I'm looking to make a bit extra on the side. Not ventured into oDesk or Elance yet but will definitely give it a look.

Hi Gem

I'm just wondering, could we possibly make online jobs available for everyone who are interested and have the passion to work online regardless of what major or course they finished at school? Computer Science and Information Technology do have an edge pursuing a career online, but how about the rest who wants a piece of the cake.
What hinders everyone to be successful having an online (full time/part time) job is the lack of proper information and the right resources. Since everyone now a days wants to let others taste the cake but not willing to teach how the cake was baked.
They said that internet is a gold mine...if you just know where to dig..I myself don't know (for now, but I'm going to get there soon and leave my trace)

Thanks Gem

Bobby

you're right, but while opportunities on the net are not for everyone be wary though that there are lots of scammers in the guise of hiring writers specifically. They would ask you to make sample writings with their given topic, after that they will steal your sample work and sell it. be sure to send them only the link to your work already published online if you have any.
