The Greenland shark is not a newly discovered specie of sharks – this shark had been existent for a long time. From its name, these Greenland sharks are found in the Northern Atlantic just near Greenland and Iceland. Unlike most species of sharks they can thrive in cold temperature waters.
Greenland sharks are recognized as the largest Arctic fish which rivals the Great White in size. However, these sharks are actually less aggressive than the Great White.
The meat from these sharks are not edible but Inuits have been using its flesh for biofuel.
Year 2009 was such a fine year for me. I started the year doing several posts per week, then slowed down posting during the stormy months.
Nevertheless, I’ve listed down the most interesting and informative posts during the year – in case you’ve missed them.
January 2009
The year started with oDesk recognizing my efforts in creating a buzz for their freelance oDesk jobs to many Filipinos. One of my oDesk posts: Get paid by the hour in oDesk, was included as an article in their site.
I guest blogged on JaypeeOnline’s blog for a tutorial on how to move from Blogger to WordPress. Since I ended up doing a comprehensive tutorial, this became a two-post series:
This was the time when I started doing hot keyword posts that attracted search engine visitors and got me a significant rise in Google Adsense earnings and other ad network. I’m quite surprised some people still ask what ethical hacking is. Connie Culp, the woman who got a face transplant, was interesting too.
As an active user of Facebook, I keep on receiving complaints from people who are annoyed at getting tagged by annoying applications that pop up once in a while. Generally those applications tag and send notifications to Facebook users without the need to ask the user to install the application.
Recently, the Pillow Fight Application is making rounds in Facebook which annoys some users. However, the simple steps I have written below, are what I do whenever I encounter them. I find this list effective.
Find the application update posted on your Facebook wall then click the link going to the application page. The link should go to the application page itself.
Note: Another way of going to the application page is through the navigation bar at the top of the page (in blue), hover over Settings, then click Application Settings. Change Show setting from Recently Used to Authorized to get a complete list of applications installed into your profile. Click the offending application in the list to visit the page.
Near the upper left corner of the Facebook page, click Block Application. A confirmation window should appear.
LunchBreakBlogger is not the only blogger I know in real life. I know three others, two who were former classmates in college and one who was a former officemate. One of these three bloggers is famous in the Philippine blogosphere. As a freelancer with lesser contact with people on a daily basis than in a typical office setting, this meetup was seriously meaningful to me.
One fine sunny day, a blogger named Jhong, the LunchBreakBlogger, left me a Facebook comment, asking to meet me. He’s coming up to Baguio and wanted to meet me in person. Alright, I said. I hope this meetup pushes through but I did not take this one too seriously. I had been through dozens of planned meetups with other bloggers that never happened.
Frankly, I’ve never been to any of his blogs but he’s one of the bloggers who had been regularly commenting on my Facebook posts at one point or another.
This month of December marks my second year in blogging, and so far I had never been to blogging events which were often held in Manila. Although Manila is just 5 hours away by midnight bus trip and full 8 hours on a daytime bus trip, for various important reasons I just could not easily drop off things here. I am usually contented and happy to watch notable blogger events via online live streams.
The dollar currency mentioned here are all in US dollars. Happy Holidays.
Did you know that Skype lets you make cheap calls from the Philippines to the US landlines and mobiles at only P1 per minute?
I know for a fact that, Skype to Skype, YM to YM and GTalk to GTalk voice calls stay 100% FREE as everyone may know. However, I just happened to have relatives in the US who do not have Skype, YM or Gtalk installed in their computers and don’t go online most of the time. Our family used to accept calls from them via landline and had to make calls only when there’s a huge family problem. We just could not afford to hold long conversations for some little casual chit chat.
